I always look forward to seeing collection from the House of Paon. Not only does he have a creative mind, he has an aesthetic that is unique to the Ghanaian market. Also as the winner of the award for the Emerging Designer of the year at this year’s Glitz Africa Style awards (READ OUR RED CARPET REVIEW HERE) I am sure he felt a little pressure to create a collection that would knock us off our feet. Plus he opened the Glitz Africa Fashion Week
The collection was beautiful. The theme and style of the collection was beautiful. The collection screams of Rihanna. That confident, good girl gone bad aesthetic. The cuts are daring and some of the pieces balanced masculine and feminine styles beautifully. An example is the military off-shoulder jacket dresses belted at the waist to give is a beautiful silhouette. The men’s collection was also pretty and soft. the complete opposite to the women’s collection. Soft colors that are usually attributed to women but had the stiff or tailored feel that men clothes normally have. My favorite pieces include the shorts and all the pieces made in lavender. There are a few other things like the visibly bad finishing on some of the pieces that not only I but a lot of the people at the runway show noticed. Paon receives this critique a lot and I have said this before. Finishing matters a lot in the fashion industry and nobody wants to be known as the designer who has bad finishing.
